Principal's Update

Dear Families,

Welcome to Term 3! I’m so happy and excited to be continuing as Principal this term, and I know it’s going to be a wonderful few months filled with positivity, learning, and achievement for all our students.

We began the term with a valuable professional development day for staff, focusing on the theory and terminology behind the sensory needs of neurodiverse individuals. This learning is part of our ongoing journey to better understand and support our students’ sensory regulation and engagement. Thanks to the generous support of our successful Schools Plus Sensory Grant, we will be continuing this professional development with further sessions that break down sensory needs into the individual sensory systems. These sessions will explore how we can engage these systems during lessons to help students regulate and access the curriculum in meaningful and engaging ways.

As part of this grant, Mrs Gardiner is also purchasing sensory equipment for each classroom that supports all sensory systems. Staff will be working closely with Occupational Therapists in their classrooms to learn how to use this equipment effectively to benefit our students. We are very excited about the positive impact this will have on student wellbeing and learning.

This week, we also celebrated NAIDOC with a fantastic day of cultural learning and connection. The morning began with a whole-site performance by Fremantle College students, which was a highlight for many. Our students then joined with mainstream peers for rotational activities including cultural crafts and games. At lunchtime, everyone enjoyed a delicious spread of damper, kangaroo stew, vegetable stew, and sausage sizzles. It was a joyful and inclusive celebration, and we’re pleased to share some photos from the day in this newsletter.

Please note that there has been a change to the date of our CLC Assembly. While it was originally scheduled for the 19th of September (as per the parent planner), it will now be held in Term 4. The exact date is still to be confirmed, but it will take place in the second half of the term. We’ll keep you updated as soon as the date is finalised.

Looking ahead, we have a busy and exciting term planned:

  • Next week: Selected students will attend a basketball tournament
  • Week 5: Book Week celebrations
  • Week 7: Father’s Day Stall
  • Week 8: Colour Run
  • Week 10: Sports Carnival

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. We look forward to a term full of growth, joy, and success for our students.

Warm regards,
Sarah Tower
